Installation "Przejscie/Passage"

Piotr Wesolowski is a young polish artist. He creates site-specific objects/sculptures which are corresponding with surrounding. For this he's using natural materials like: branches, leaves, and other plants. In PANIPANAMA art space he built a kind of "cocoon" where visitors (as he says) could experience a "metamorphose".

Piotr Wesolowski was born in Kielce, Poland in 1980. He lives and works close to Wroclaw. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw, made his Diploma in July 2008 "Sculpture-Architecture, Architecture-Sculpture". He also studied Architecture at the Polytechnic in Wroclaw and Sculpture at the Wolverhampton University in Great Britain (BA). He takes part in solo and group exhibitions in Poland and abroad.

Text from the artist’s notebook:

‘COCOON’ - casing spun  as a protective cover passage for some individuals.

Cocoons may be tough or soft, opaque or translucent, solid or meshlike, or composed of multiple layers, depending on the place where’s produced. Most of it contain nutritious substances for a passing individuals.

Sometime it’s attached to walls, twigs, fecal pellets or pieces of vegetation to the outside of their cocoon in an attempt to disguise it from predators.

Others spin their cocoon in a concealed location - on the underside of a leaf, in a crevice, down near the base of a tree trunk, suspended from a twig or concealed in the leaf litter.

But this one will be made in art gallery.

Cocoon is constructed with built-in lines of weakness along which they will easily tear in or out.

Before full transformation - passing through whole ‘cocoon’ – most individuals building their own one - cocoon of the consciousness. And this proces is arising behind builder authority.
